What inspired you to start Street Cultivation?

I started Street Cultivation because I saw a need for more urban agriculture in my community. I live in a low-income neighborhood in San Francisco, and there are very few places where people can grow their own food. I wanted to create an organization that would make it easier for people to start and maintain community gardens, and I also wanted to use urban agriculture as a way to address other social issues, such as food insecurity and unemployment.

What are some of the challenges that you have faced in your work?

One of the biggest challenges has been finding funding. Urban agriculture is not always seen as a priority by funders, and it can be difficult to get the resources we need to support our programs. We have also faced some challenges in terms of land access. It can be difficult to find affordable land in urban areas, and we have had to be creative in finding places to grow food.

What are some of the successes that you have achieved?

We have had a number of successes in our work. We have helped to start and maintain over 50 community gardens in San Francisco, and we have trained over 1,000 people in urban agriculture. We have also developed a number of innovative programs, such as our Food Justice Fellowship program, which provides training and support to community leaders who are working to address food insecurity in their communities.

What are your hopes for the future of Street Cultivation?

I hope that Street Cultivation will continue to grow and expand our work. I would like to see us start more community gardens, train more people in urban agriculture, and develop more programs that address the social and environmental challenges facing our communities. I also hope that we can inspire other people to start their own urban agriculture projects, and that we can create a more just and sustainable food system for all.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in starting their own urban agriculture project?

I would encourage anyone who is interested in starting their own urban agriculture project to do their research and to find a community of support. There are a lot of resources available online and in libraries, and there are also many organizations that can provide training and support. It is also important to be patient and persistent. Starting an urban agriculture project can take time and effort, but it is definitely worth it in the end.
