Earl Hooker was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi, on January 24, 1929. He began playing guitar at an early age, and by the time he was a teenager, he was performing regularly at local clubs. In 1951, Hooker moved to Chicago, where he quickly became a fixture on the city's blues scene. He played with a number of notable blues musicians, including Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, and Willie Dixon. Hooker also recorded a number of albums, including his self-titled debut album in 1962 and The Hooker 'N' Heat album in 1963.

Hooker's guitar style was characterized by a heavy use of bass notes and a percussive attack. He often used a slide guitar, which gave his playing a distinctive sound. Hooker was also known for his songwriting, which often dealt with personal experiences such as love, loss, and addiction. Hooker's music has been praised by critics and fellow musicians alike, and he has been cited as an influence by a number of notable artists, including Eric Clapton, Keith Richards, and Otis Rush.
